How to get started with Flaw & Order

In order to access all the features of our online grammar tool, certain technical requirements must be met. Please take the time to follow the procedures outlined here; this will prevent frustration on both your and our part and will ensure that you are able to make full use of our self-assessment and error treatment.

1. Be sure to use an up-to-date version of your web browser

Most current web browsers (e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Mozilla or Safari) should be able to display our screens and run our applications. Your browser, however, needs to be enabled for both Java Script and popups. Usually, it is not necessary to change these features in your browser as they should be set in default configuration.

Nevertheless, if you have difficulties with displaying the screens of Flaw & Order, you need to manually activate both Java Script and popups before continuing to work with our tool. To do this, please consult your browser documentation.

2. You need to allow popups from our server

As our learner feedback uses popup technology, it is essential for popups to be allowed. If you are uncomfortable with the idea of allowing all popups, you can easily authorise our server only to send you data in popup mode. You can do this in your browser settings.

Please consult your browser documentation on how exactly to allow popups from our website.

Should you forget to enable our popups, you will get a message bar in the upper frame of your browser window. Go to the left-hand side of the corner of the bar, where you can adjust the popup settings. Doing this will, however, reboot the exercise and you will lose the answers you have entered so far.

3. You need to register

In order to use Flaw & Order, you need to register with Virtuelle Hochschule Bayern (vhb). You can do this by following the instructions on the vhb website:

http://www.vhb.org/

We will then receive your registration, put you into our system and send you an email with your logon details. When you have these, you can follow the "Log on" button in the navigation bar to enter the programme (be sure to use the right "context"). Once logged on, the "How to..." section will give you further information on how to get to work.
