Object

An object is usually realised by a noun phrase which occurs after the verb. The objects in active clauses can be made the subjects of corresponding passive structures.

We distinguish between direct and indirect objects.

  1. I won't need foreign languages for what I'll be doing later on.

  2. Government moves to make the curriculum for 14 to 19-year-olds more flexible and relevant to working life have had a devastating effect on foreign language learning.

  3. This autumn the National Centre for Languages launched a new range of materials designed to help schools and career advisers to provide proper guidance to students about the importance of languages.

  4. Professor Sinclair handed Maria the essay.

  5. The new regulations give students breathing space and time to learn it properly.
